Previews Coming Soon and Wim Wenders Joins the Issue!
I’ve been working like a dog for months now to bring you the next issue, and soon it’s going to be time to start sharing some of that work with you. I want to be clear upfront, the issue isn’t done. There have been setbacks at every step of the way, and being only one person, it takes a little while longer to get back on track. While some of the delays have been out of my control, such as working with people’s schedules and having help not follow through, a lot of the problems I’ll admit probably stem from my preconceptions going into this project. I knew exactly how I wanted every detail of this issue, but as I got into it I realized that what was happening was dictating a different kind of work and it would be foolish to keep going with what I had planned. A big part of the delays was that I was trying to get some big names involved with this issue. I am happy to say I was able to get all but one, which is a pretty good average. I just finished one of the interviews on Thursday and the last one is scheduled in mid March and then the issue will be a wrap. In the meantime I’ve been changing my initial designs for the look of the issue. They looked pretty but they weren’t really optimal for tablets. It’s just a part of the design process when it comes to tablets is that you’ve got to give yourself time to live with the product and really get a feel for what works and what doesn’t. Based on testing a lot of interaction I’ve come up with a much slicker look. It’s something that is inline with Moral Tales but is more refined and dynamic.
So while there is still some time until the release, I wanted to let you know that I’m going to start sharing content with you! The first thing I will be posting is my interview with legendary film director Wim Wenders on monday. This man is one of my all-time heros and it was just an amazing experience to meet him. It is also extra special because all my work for this issue has been based on his work. I’ve watched his films every night, read all his writings, and listened to all his commentary tracks. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that the person I was dedicated the issue to would actually be a part of it. I’m also going to start posting more interviews soon. Also I’m going to start posting short video clips leading up to the final video that will be in the app.
For those who bought the source code I am going to set up a private blog and start sharing some sample projects with you. I had planned all along to break up the code into steps because I know how daunting the simplest code can look to a beginner when everything is in it’s final state. So I’m going to post a couple projects that just show the basics and build up to what the final project will be. This will also provide a way to get some feedback from you so I can build a better product for all of us.
One update that has already happened is that the site has gotten a bit of a refresh to more closely resemble the new issue. It’s not exactly what the issue looks like, (honestly I don’t like to lock anything down until the very last minute), but it definitely fits in with the new look.
That’s all I have to report now, and I hope to be able to report more soon.
